First of all, this piece is not my personal story. This is dedicated to all those guy friends (don’t read as boy friends please, especially Karan Johor’s recent fans) of mine who are still single. In past 7-8 years continuously whose mouths will open little wide, when a beautiful (sorry…. any) girl passes by. Their dedication towards every girl whom they meet or see is worth appreciating, but alas! That ugly-faced* never even turns back and sees. So from hereon I will try to mention ‘We’ instead of ‘I’.
Ok let us try to decode this Morse code. Before starting why we don’t have girlfriends, first, why we need girlfriends? Is it just because we can share something, might be personal, with her? That of course we can share with our guy friend also and maybe more frankly. What matters more is the trust, than whether the person is guy or a girl in this case.
If you have a girlfriend, you might have to wish her on her birthday at 12.00 AM, or else she will get angry and cry on your face next day. You might have to give her a nice present. What you have to give to your boy friend is only birthday bums and a common line – “You are grown up now. Still expecting gifts like kids. Chi. Grow up.”
Valentine day is another big example, where you might have to open your pockets for your girlfriend. While, your guy friend, ha ha ha. “Are you crazy? Such things are not allowed in Indian culture. What people will think if we both go outside together today? Some other day dude.” And that other day should never come.
But even after so many defects and maintenance expenditures, we still need a girlfriend. Why? Few need to show off to their buddies, that he has one; they hardly care for each other. Few just do it for fun. But why I need one?
A big debatable topic is which is better-“Love marriage or Arranged Marriage?” Anyways I am not going to discuss much about that. Both have pros and cons. Against arranged marriage, we can tell that how can one marry one stranger? That too when momma tells from beginning that you shouldn’t even talk to a stranger. On the other hand, love marriage lacks security in many cases. At least number of incidents tells that.
What I believe in is Arranged-love marriage. It is better to know someone before marriage. This allows having a better respect for your partner, and clear understanding of their needs and desires. And if everything suits, then hardly there will be any compromise, rather it will be complimentary to each other. If you don’t know her before marriage, then subsequently you people might have to spend few initial years (gem years) in understanding each other. And there can be compromises also, as there is no rewind button in life after marriage.
So it’s better to start a relationship as a friend, and if we understand and suit each other, we can change our relationship status later. The person with whom we have shared our best laughs, toughest problem days, sweet memories, bitter fights, it will be quite easy to share life with them. In short we need to have a good understanding before hand. So guys, I do need a girlfriend.
Now, one questionable topic, why we don’t have girlfriends, when we need one? Ask some smart guy, and he will answer that he doesn’t have time to run behind them, so even when he needs, he doesn’t have one. What is it that girls look out for? Is it brain, looks, physical fitness, smartness, bikes (cars added advantage), good at heart, richness, sense of humor, or blah blah? What is it that guys look out for? A girl. J
I gathered courage one day, and asked one girl. What is that you people look out for in a guy?
Girl: Listen, looks hardly matter. What matters most is that he should be good at heart.
Everything came in front of my eyes like a flash back. My parents, my relatives, my teachers, everyone were telling me that I am so good at heart in different episodes. I don’t remember I was so happy in recent times ever before. That entire flash back was a big block buster for me. Still I came back home, discussed with my friends about this, and they all told that this is the right time and right girl to propose. Next day, once again I gathered courage, and went and met her and proposed. Her reply was awesome.
Girl: Hey common! What are you saying? We are just friends’ yaar.
Me: But I like you, and I am very good at heart and anyways for you, looks don’t matter right.
Girl: Uffff. Give me a break. That I had simply told because I am good at heart. And you took it seriously. Poor chap.
This didn’t hurt that much, how much this fact that all my room mates were just hiding behind that bush and heard the whole conversation, and never allowed me a chance to protect my ijjat. I will never forgive those rascals.
Anyways, there are still people in world, who fit into all qualities expected by girls, still they are single. Why? I think the only answer to this question is “Girls are impossible to understand”.
The last statement is pretty genuine as it goes with the popular proverb “The grapes are sour”. (Angoor khatte hain!!!!). And even I agree with it proudly. Because they are sour for me too. Being in a democratic country like India, and following politics, what we have learnt is blaming others. (‘Us not having girlfriends’ on girls only telling that it’s their bad luck)
But reality is LuckByChance I am still single, and searching for one. So appeal to all girl readers, who are still single, you know where to contact me. I am still good at heart. :D Mummy!!! :-‘( I am still single.

India and Valentine day
Let me give you the details, especially for those who don’t read newspapers.
There were few unwanted incidents prior to Valentine’s Day, the centre of all that being Mangalore.
And behind all those incidents were one rising-group, which wanted to be promoted as a political party, SRS, Shree Ram Sene.
Pramod Mutalik is head of that SRS.
Firstly, they entered in a pub on 24th of January, in Mangalore, and beat all the girls present there nicely.
Their view was, pub going, drinking and all is part of western culture, and it’s defamation to Indian culture.
Interestingly, they were beating only girls; guys doing the same thing were allowed, I suppose.
There were no arrests, as the beaten girls backed off, without any complaint.
But all political parties took advantage and made a big issue out of it.
After 2 days of first incident:-
Secondly, one MLA of Kerala, his daughter studies in Mangalore.
She was coming back home, in a bus, with one of her friend, guy, who was a Muslim.
She herself was Hindu. She was talking to him in the bus.
Few people didn’t like this; they messaged from bus, asked the bus driver and conductor to stop the bus.
Called their friends, got them both down the bus, took them in different directions, and beat both of them nicely and manhandled and then left.
They gave warning to that girl, that being a Hindu, she shouldn’t be talking to a Muslim guy.
Few arrests were there, but of no use till now.
After few days, of second incident:-
These so called moral police, they call themselves with this name, caught one guy and girl sitting in a park and chatting.
They were not doing anything disgusting, but these people caught them and handed over to police, and pressurized police to take action.
Police gave hitting it seems, and scolded that girl also nicely, and then left them.
That girl came back home and committed suicide.
Anyways, all these incidents, made this SRS, world famous (notorious) within a fortnight.
They got true strength, and they announced that they will not allow people to celebrate Valentine‘s Day this time in Karnataka.
They told that if they find any couple hanging around on that day, they will catch them and give them 2 options.
Either girl should tie rakhi, or they should get married on spot.
And all this will be recorded on video, and might be submitted to court, if any action against them and also maybe sent to their parents.
Later, they changed their second option, as forcefully marriage is a criminal offence, so they told they will handover them to police.
Then came, nationwide campaign against them.
One journalist from Delhi, Nisha Susan, started pink chaddi campaign. For reference - http://thepinkchaddicampaign.blogspot.com/
In this they had mentioned collection points, in Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai and other few places, where girls were suppose to go and donate pink chaddis ( can be used ones or new anything).
Since, guys love to participate in such campaigns, they requested that they also want to donate pink chaddis, and they also joined.
Within a week that blog had around 39,000 viewers. More than 5000 members, and within 5 days they collected more than 3700 pink chaddis.
Then they couriered all that to Pramod Mutalik, our hero of the story, to their office on 13th February, along with many things which I cannot mention here.
Now against this, one group in hubli rose, girl’s group.
Telling sending chaddis is so insane, and against the Indian culture, and we will send the proper reply to those girls.
They collected pink sarees, and sent those girls, telling that this is the culture of India, not chaddis.
Now our hero was arrested on 13th February, so that he cannot create nuisance on Valentine’s day, and due to heavy security cover, because of pressure on B S Yedurappa, our CM, the day went peacefully.
The day went peacefully, mainly because, most of the people avoided to throng the streets. Only the people following that campaign, and one pub bharo movement people came.
Our hero, Mutalik might be released today, but he had a big problem.
What would he do, with 3700 chaddis, few of them smelling? ;-)
First he thought of sending them back to those girl’s parents.
Then they thought of giving off to orphanage.
Then they thought of doing auction of that. (God knows, who gave this idea, and who would had come to buy them).
But finally, recent news, they have thought of burning them all at a public place, and protesting that.
The biggest dilemma of this country is that when we are still recovering from the terrible terror attack which we faced on 26/11 in Mumbai, rather than doing something fruitful for our safety, and coming out of that fear, the main issue in this country from past two weeks was, ‘Whether we should celebrate Valentine’s day or not?’.
Just a week back, intelligence had given report, telling that Mumbai like attacks can be repeated, and this time target can be Bangalore.
In this situation, if the police are forced to give cover to those people (couples) who want to do PDA (Public Display of Affection), on streets and parks, who will save us from those terror attacks? Yeah, we are always ready to blame later that police was incompetent, that’s why such big loss and all.
But we should ask ourselves, what we are doing, to make ourselves safe.
Why we are giving chances to such groups to rise, which pick up such nonsense issues and disrupt life, when more serious issues in our country have taken a big toll.
They are here to stop us loving each other on 1 specific day. What about rest 364 days? So if they are not bothered about those 364 days what people do, why just on this day?
In my view, Valentine’s Day is a kind of economic and artificial love. Economic, because, just by giving a rose, you can tell that, you love him/her. Artificial, because it hardly matters how you behave with that person for rest 364 days. (My mathematical brain insists me to put 365 days in case of a leap year). ;-)
Love is not something which is celebrated like Independence day, Republic day or Happy Birthday, just once in a year. Love is something which you do forever.
Appeal to people, that love is sacred. Just don’t give it a bad name by doing something insane. Understand the difference between love and lust.
Enjoy your life.
